Jet2 Flight Diverts to Brussels After Mid-Air Passenger Fight

A Jet2 flight travelling from Turkey to the United Kingdom was forced to divert on Thursday evening, 12 February, after a fight broke out between passengers while the aircraft was in the air.

Flight LS896, operated by a Boeing 737-800 (registration G-JZDH), departed Antalya Airport bound for Manchester Airport, where it was scheduled to land at 19:40 local time. During the flight, an altercation between passengers escalated into a physical confrontation, prompting the crew to take decisive action.

Diversion for Safety

Following the disturbance, the flight crew elected to divert the aircraft to Brussels Airport, the nearest suitable airport at the time. The decision was made in line with standard aviation safety procedures, with the safety of passengers and crew as the top priority.

The aircraft landed safely in Brussels, where local police boarded the plane and removed two individuals involved in the incident.

Airline Response

According to initial reports, the situation involved a physical fight between passengers mid-flight. Jet2 later confirmed that the two disruptive passengers have been banned from flying with the airline.

In an official statement, Jet2 reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on board for disruptive or aggressive behaviour, emphasizing that such actions are taken extremely seriously and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Delayed Arrival in Manchester

After the passengers were removed and the required ground and security procedures were completed, the aircraft was cleared to continue its journey. Flight LS896 eventually resumed its route to Manchester, arriving significantly later than planned.
