Vietjet (VJ) has announced a significant fleet expansion with a new order for 20 Airbus A330-900 aircraft, reinforcing its strategic growth plans over the next decade. This latest commitment doubles the airline’s total A330neo orders to 40 aircraft, marking a significant step forward in Vietjet’s ambition to expand its international network and long-haul capabilities.

In addition to the widebody order, Vietjet is also expanding its single-aisle fleet with an order for 96 Airbus A320neo Family aircraft. Currently, the airline operates an all-Airbus fleet, consisting of seven A330-300 widebodies and 115 single-aisle A320 Family jets, serving an extensive regional network.

A Milestone Agreement

The agreement was formalized in Hanoi by Wouter van Wersch, President of Airbus International, and Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Chairwoman of Vietjet, during the official state visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Vietnam. The contract documents were exchanged in the presence of Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and President Macron, symbolizing the strengthening of bilateral cooperation between France and Vietnam.

This long-term order will support Vietjet’s international network expansion, enabling the carrier to increase frequencies on high-demand routes across the Asia-Pacific region and to introduce new long-haul services to Europe.

Strengthening Global Connectivity

Vietjet Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao highlighted the significance of the deal:
“Modern Airbus aircraft, with the latest levels of efficiency and lower fuel consumption, have accompanied Vietjet’s growth and will continue to support our global flight network expansion. Vietjet remains dedicated to delivering greater connectivity and sustainable air travel for millions of passengers around the world.”

Currently, Vietjet operates its A330-300 aircraft on international routes to destinations such as Kazakhstan, India, and Australia. The addition of the A330-900, with its enhanced range and fuel efficiency, will enable the airline to strengthen these routes and expand into long-haul markets, including Europe.

Airbus's Continued Partnership with Vietjet

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President Sales, Commercial Aircraft at Airbus, praised the partnership:
“Vietjet has established itself as one of the fastest-growing airlines in the world, bringing low fares with warm Vietnamese hospitality. We are proud that the carrier has selected the A330neo as its widebody aircraft of choice to build on its success, and we look forward to continuing our partnership as Vietjet expands its reach.”

With this landmark order, Vietjet not only underscores its commitment to modernizing its fleet with fuel-efficient, environmentally friendly aircraft but also signals its readiness to become a more significant player in global aviation markets.
