Unexpected airport announces to be the busiest in the world

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport

An airport that was not even among the 10 busiest in the world in 2019 has just announced that it has taken the lead in the ranking in the messy pandemic year 2020.

As we had seen last week, Atlanta International Airport, in the United States, which for 22 years remained the busiest annual passenger movement worldwide, experienced a 61.7% drop in its consolidated movement in 2020, from 110.5 million in 2019 to 42.9 million this past year.

However, on Monday, January 25, Chinese media reports that Guangdong Airport Group, which manages Guangzhou's Baiyun International Airport (CAN), has announced that it has become the busiest in the world in 2020.

Now, according to the manager of the Guangzhou airport, when analyzing the disclosures of passengers who passed through the 20 busiest airports in the world in 2020, none of them exceeded the numbers of Baiyun, which registered 43.768 million.
