Global Airlines Promotes 'Special' Daytime A380 Flights to New York JFK This May

UK-based start-up Global Airlines is gearing up for its highly anticipated launch this summer, with a twist that sets it apart from the crowd: daytime transatlantic flights using the Airbus A380. In a rare move, the carrier promotes "special" services between the UK and New York JFK—some of the only daytime scheduled passenger flights from the US to Europe this northern summer.

But don’t blink—the lights are limited. As currently scheduled (subject to change), Global Airlines will operate two one-off flights in May:

  • May 19: New York JFK to Glasgow

  • May 25: New York JFK to Manchester

Both flights will be operated by the 12.5-year-old Airbus A380, registration 9H-GLOBL, which is leased from HiFly Malta. The aircraft operator recently gained approval under the US Visa Waiver Program, allowing passengers to travel using the streamlined ESTA system instead of a traditional visa.

Strategic Route Choices

While Global Airlines eventually plans to operate more broadly, the decision to start with Glasgow and Manchester isn’t random. Don't cities offer shorter distances, fewer time zone shifts, and strong point-to-point demand—a key advantage for a start-up testing the waters? Still, point-to-point strength doesn’t always succeed. For example, despite 1.3 million passengers flying directly between JFK and Paris CDG in 2023, Delta ended its daytime service on the route after just one season.

Global Airlines’ IATA code is Q4, according to its submission to OAG as reported by Aeroroutes. However, aviation enthusiasts may be disappointed to learn that flight numbers 380 and 388—a perfect nod to the A380—will not be used, which some might see as a missed marketing opportunity.
