Aviation has always been more than just a career for Dmytro Ivanov. For him, it’s a lifelong passion that began at 10 and led him to become a fully licensed pilot by 2016. With over 5 years of cockpit experience, Dmytro shares valuable insights into flying, the role of the AirNav Radar app, and his journey toward becoming an airline captain.

From Passion to Profession

Dmytro’s love for aviation started when he was young and shaped his career path. "Aviation is an amazing career," he says. There are many milestones, like obtaining your Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL), learning to fly a new aircraft, and eventually landing the job that feels like the perfect fit." His commitment to the profession is clear, and he’s determined to keep growing, with the ultimate goal of becoming a Captain one day.

Staying on top of flight information is crucial in today's fast-paced aviation world. Dmytro points out how AirNav Radar is key in managing flight operations. "AirNav Radar is handy," he explains. The Road to Becoming a Pilot: Dmytro’s Advice

The journey can feel overwhelming for aspiring pilots—especially with the required financial commitment. Dmytro admits it’s not an easy road, but he believes it’s achievable for anyone who is determined. "Getting started in aviation can be daunting," he says, "but it's not impossible. My best advice is to sit down, assess your current situation, and figure out which path makes the most sense for you."

Dmytro recommends thorough research when considering military or civilian aviation. "If the military route is an option for you, talk to a recruiter. If civil aviation is the path, check out local flight schools, visit them, and ask about training costs and programs. I started flight training in my mid-20s after working in another field to save money, so it’s possible to make it happen, even if it takes some planning."

His advice doesn’t end there. "Once you’re in the game, focus on reaching key milestones—like earning your CPL and multi-engine IFR ratings. After that, start looking for your first job to build flight hours and experience."

Safety Above All: Dmytro’s Approach to Flying

As a pilot, Dmytro’s commitment to safety is unwavering. He stresses that respecting aviation is crucial, whether you’re a student pilot or a seasoned pro. "Never cut corners. If something doesn’t feel right, stay on the ground and take a moment to reassess," he advises. "It's always better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than to be in the air wishing you were on the ground."

Dmytro also emphasizes the importance of thorough weather briefings before each flight. "In aviation, you can never be too safe. Always gather all the information you need before you fly."
