Emirates to Ban Onboard Power Bank Use from October 2025

Emirates has announced a new safety measure that will change how passengers travel with their portable chargers. Starting Wednesday, October 1, 2025, the use of any kind of power bank onboard Emirates flights will be strictly prohibited.

The decision follows a recent safety review, with the airline citing passenger safety as the driving factor behind the change. While current rules already prohibit carrying power banks in checked luggage, passengers have been allowed to use them in the cabin. That will soon change.

Under the new rules, passengers will still be allowed to carry one power bank, but cannot use it during the flight. The updated regulations state:

• One power bank allowed per passenger, rated under 100 Watt Hours.

• Power banks may not be used to charge personal devices onboard.

• Charging a power bank from the aircraft’s power supply is not permitted.

• All power banks must have clear capacity rating information visible.

• Power banks must be kept in the seat pocket or in a bag under the seat in front of you – not in the overhead bin.

• Power banks remain prohibited in checked luggage (existing rule).

The move aligns with growing airline caution regarding lithium-ion batteries, which can overheat or pose fire risks if damaged. By restricting onboard use, Emirates aims to further minimize potential hazards.
