Plane crash kills two near Oshkosh 2024 on first day

In a tragic incident on the first day of the 71st EAA AirVenture event, two people lost their lives when a plane crashed in a farm field approximately two miles south of the EAA AirVenture grounds on Monday afternoon.
Incident Details
The air traffic control tower at Wittman Regional Airport reported the crash at 12:15 p.m., according to a news release from the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office. The accident occurred in the vicinity of Old Knapp Road and Nekimi Avenue.
Emergency Response
Emergency crews swiftly responded to the scene, including personnel from the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, Oshkosh Fire Department, Nekimi Fire Department and First Responders, Van Dyne Fire Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, and members of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Upon arrival, they discovered that the plane was fully engulfed in flames.
Casualties
The sheriff’s office confirmed that two individuals were on board the aircraft, both of whom perished in the crash. Their identities are being withheld pending notification of their families.
Ongoing Investigation
The cause of the crash is under investigation by the NTSB, which arrived on the scene at 2 p.m. No further details have been released at this time.
