FedEx will retire its MD-10s in 2022

FedEx confirmed this week that it will retire its old MD-10 next year. In a statement to investors, the company says that the investments and growth achieved in fiscal year 2019 created the “ideal time” to buy new aircraft and deactivate less efficient models.

"We have successfully retired all of our A310 aircraft, and we hope to retire our entire MD-10 fleet by the end of fiscal year 2022," said the American company. The aircraft will be replaced by the twin-engine Boeing 767F and 777F.

The classic McDonnell Douglas jet has been flying with FedEx for nearly 40 years. The company currently has 17 active units (four MD-10-10 and 13 MD-10-30 models). It is the largest fleet of its kind in the world, and also one of the last.
